In the period from 1 August to 18 November 2017 the Dutch think tank [De]Regulate Health Care has charted how much time healthcare professionals spend on administration per working week. Floris Oudshoorn created live cartoons during the big, national day for [De]Regulate Health Care. The cartoons were shared with great success on Twitter.
Administration in the healthcare sector costs about 40% of working time, generates a great deal of frustration, is by no means always perceived as useful, and continues to rise as a result of the continuous stacking of tasks. The think tank initiated by HRMO and VvAA examined the following points:
At what time of the day a healthcare professional is busy with administration.
How long does that administration last.
For whom the healthcare professional thinks the administration will do.
The reason that the healthcare professional does the administration.
Based on this information, an ideal-typical weekly agenda emerged for each professional group; a description of the average working week of a healthcare professional.
The think tank also developed the Funnel of Dilution and an Arguments Chart, which help with the question of whether an administrative act can be deleted or improved.
